Kindergarten learned about list poetry. We read several list poems, such as, Sick, by Shel Silverstein, Bleezer's Ice Cream by Jack Prelutsky, and Bugs by Margaret Wise Brown. A list poem is simply that - a list. However, it is not a random list; it has certain characteristics. We discussed how a list poem usually starts with a similar beginning and end and the middle lists words to describe or go along with it. It often uses repetition and it can include rhyme or not. We created list poems by brainstorming all the things that might make us say, "Ouch!" Then the students turned their list poems into giant band-aids and got to use a "silly band-aid" to pose for their picture.
