Kindergarten has been doing an author study on Jan Brett during the month of December. We have read The Gingerbread Baby, The Mitten, and The Hat. They have really been enjoying these stories as well as Jan Brett's wonderful website. They particularly loved making masks of the characters from The Gingerbread Baby; these templates are available on her website along with videos, coloring pages, and much more. Unfortunately, I didn't get any pictures of the students with their masks on, but they were quite a sight to see!
Today we watched the video below of Jan Brett teaching us how to draw a hedgehog. Then the kindergarten students became illustrators and created their own hedgehogs using Tux Paint. This was not an easy feat for them and it required very fine motor skills to control the mouse. They have come a long way since the beginning of the year. Take a look at some of their illustrations below!
Kindergarten also designed and created their own mittens which are hanging on the clothesline in the media center. Be sure to stop by and see them - they are very colorful. We just hope there aren't any bears or foxes stuffed in them!
It was close, but GLOVES was the winner with 33 votes compared to MITTENS with 27.
