The 1st graders have been doing a unit on folktales and fables. We read The Little Red Hen, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, The Three Billy Goats Gruff, and The Three Little Pigs. We discussed the characteristics of these genres and compared and contrasted them to one another and to other versions of the same stories, such as Jan Brett's, The Three Snow Bears.
Each first grade class then chose a folktale or fable to retell in their own words. After dividing the story into pages, they worked in partners to illustrate their assigned page. Finally, I used iMovie to record each group reading their page aloud and to put them together into a "book."
