The pumpkins are in and they are incredible! If you haven’t had a chance to stop by the media center to see the book character pumpkins submitted by our talented Musson students, then you are missing out! The pumpkins will be on display this week so try to drop in and see the amazing creativity and hard work that went into creating these projects. If you can’t make it in, take a sneak peek at the Animoto video below. Winners will be announced Wednesday on the morning news.
Kindergarten has been discussing author/illustrator and the various ways illustrators can create pictures in stories. This week, we read some books by Lois Ehlert who uses collage as her art medium. Lois Ehlert likes to use paper, fabric, even items from nature to create her pictures, so after being inspired by her, we became illustrators ourselves and used different types of paper to create a fall collage. Take a look at Kindergarten's fabulous "illustrations" below.
Dewey Decimal doesn’t have to be boring! We’re making it fun in the media center this week with several activities to review the Dewey Decimal and OPAC systems in our library in order to become more independent researchers:
Third Grade completed an OPAC Hunt on books in our library and are taking off with using the OPAC system on their own. They visited several sites on the Dewey Decimal System; the Dewey Rap was definitely the most popular!
Fourth Grade is working on creating a Dewey Decimal presentation using Google Presentation in Google Apps. They are working in groups to create a slide for each section of the Dewey Decimal System and then we will combine the slides to create one teaching tool for the younger grades. I will post these projects when they are complete.
Kindergarten has been doing an author study on one of my favorites, Kevin Henkes. So far, we have read Chrysanthemum, Owen, and Kitten's First Full Moon. We have been discussing the roles of author and illustrator and the various mediums illustrators can use to illustrate books.
